Love, regret

So, last night I took my girls to Olive Garden along with my oldest daughter’s best friend. We decided to go for dessert and theirs is the best. During one of our conversations, my best friend/ex-bf comes up. My oldest daughter decides to text him. He texted something to my daughter that didn’t make much sense. I told her he was probably drinking. She asked him if he was, he said maybe. She proceeded to tell him that she had something to tell him and he should probably sit down. She told him I was getting married, she had him going for a few minutes. His reaction was that I deserve to be happy. Finally, she told him that she was kidding and then told him that I was dating someone.  She then let him believe it was my ex-boyfriend before him. I have no idea why she did all this (probably because she doesn’t care for him much), but at this point I really didn’t care. Our friendship has severely deteriorated over the last year and a half since we ended our 3 months as a couple. He’s been a complete ass and I should have went with my first instinct 3 years ago to just run when he tried to kiss me.

So..fast forward back to the present. He proceeded to tell my daughter that it would never have worked out for us anyway and asked my daughter not to tell me that. After a little bickering between the two of them, and my daughter telling him that he lost the best (me) – he told my daughter he never really had me and eventually told her he didn’t have time for a silly woman – meaning me.

Now, I realize that he’s a bit upset because he thinks I’m getting involved with someone who completely broke my heart in two. When in reality, the man in question barely acknowledges the fact that he knows me better than almost anyone. So I understand that my friend  might say a few things that he shouldn’t, but still. And that my 17 year old shouldn’t be playing a joke on him. That’s beside the point. I was already pissed before any of this transpired. About a month ago he reiterated to me that he thinks primarily of me when he jacks off. Oh, thanks…I really wish he wouldn’t. He’d also told me that he misses me and wants to see me, blah blah blah. And in his classic douchebag form, tells me in the same breath that we can’t continue with the same song and dance a third time. I informed him that I don’t appreciate his telling me all this crap, as he has in the past, and then telling me that it will never work for us. His classic excuse is that he has to be realistic. The  real reality is, again, that I should have never let any of this ever happen – the dating, nothing. I will take my share of the responsibility in that. I knew back then that I would live to regret it and that it would change our friendship in a way I wouldn’t like. I was right, it did. And yes, I regret it all.

adopt a dog, dog, keeshond, new puppy, puppy

I had a lab-mix puppy that my boss gave me. He told me that if I didn’t want him, he was going to take him to the animal shelter. I took him, thinking it would turn out ok. I haven’t had that great of a track record with animals I have taken in. Just like the Akita, he tore up my yard. He almost finished what the Akita had started by nearly completely ripping  my coaxial cable from the wall. Did I mention that he almost chewed it in half? I kept him for almost 3 months before I decided that enough is enough. Ironically, the day after I decided he had to go..my sister texted my daughter telling her they had a Keeshond puppy at the shelter. She’s been there for around seven years and has never seen a Keeshond of any age come through there. My kids went to see him the next day and they really liked him. She brought him over that day, as well. I’d forgotten how fun that breed of puppies can be. We had to wait 3 days before we could adopt him, in case the owners were looking for him. He came in there matted and none of the workers other than my sister could even recognize that what breed he is. Luckily, they didn’t receive any calls about him and we got to bring him home. He’s been here a week and he’s a wonderful little guy full of energy and character. My older Keeshond doesn’t seem to mind him either. Now I’m able to let my dogs and my declawed cat outside again. I couldn’t do it before without my cat being endlessly chased and keeping my dogs from eating. I’ll post pictures later!

My French and English lineage

genealogy

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ve been researching my family history for many years. A year or so ago, I had stumbled upon one line of my family that leads to William I de Normandy, better known as William the Conqueror, King of England. I didn’t pursue that line because I was researching a different family line at the time. I also didn’t realize that William the Conqueror was a King of England, until tonight. (I was never interested in history much when I was younger). A few hours ago, my dad sent me information that proves one of our family lines leads back to Robert de Caen, Earl of Gloucester, whom I am a direct descendant of. I didn’t know who that was, but I kept tracing it back. I got really excited when I realized what I was looking at. In order to keep myself from jumping the gun, I checked a few websites that list William the Conqueror’s direct line. Sure enough, one of my lines lead straight back to him.In my line, it shows that Henry I Beauclerc was the father of Robert de Caen.  Just to be absolutely certain, I’ve spent all night entering my line into a genealogy program. As it turns out, I am a direct descendant of Robert de Caen, Earl of Gloucester – 30 generations back. Which means that I am a direct descendant of William the Conqueror going back 32 generations. So I have not only 1 King in my family tree, but 2. I was told as a child that my family goes back to France, but I was never told how. The funny thing is that on the other side of my family, it leads back to England also. They owned a castle that is still standing today. I was always fascinated by that, knowing that we owned a castle but I’m blown away to learn that two of my ancestors were kings! I guess I should start reading a bit of history to learn more about my family!
